What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy treatment like?
CBT is a collaborative therapy. The client and therapist work together to understand the problem. They then develop goals for therapy and devise a plan of how to work towards these goals by focussing on their thoughts and behaviour.
Therapy will start with an assessment of the problem from which goals for treatment will be developed. The client and therapist will establish an in-depth formulation of the problem over the sessions to aid understanding and promote change.
CBT is an active therapy with in-session tasks/exercises and home practice. Sessions are structured with an agenda which is created by both the client and therapist.
Treatment will be based upon evidence based protocols for particular problems but will be tailored to the clients own unique experiences and difficulties.
